Thank you Ashley Bryant. Hey, my name is Bobby Koonce, as she said, and I will be talking to you all about the survey data that was collected concerning about improvement in our Athletic Department. The first question I would like to touch base on is the response to “The most liked sports at West Craven High School”. People seem to enjoy watching and playing football, with 38%, secondly basketball with 29%, third is soccer and baseball with 11%, track came in with 6%, and last of all, fifth softball with 5%. We asked students in the survey, “What would they like to see change overall in West Craven High School sports department? Students said, they would like a mascot, more money, and more sponsors. This leads me to my next survey question. This is a chart of the response of having more sponsors. Overall 98% said yes, and 2% said no. Here are some responses to the “condition of the sport equipment.” “Equipment is not in good condition as it could be”, one stated. ‘Its poorly overall” another added, and “it needs improvement” another suggested. Since teachers and coaches are so called concern about athletes grade; maybe having study-hall could improve them. What I'm getting at is having legible players playing and attending could help boost West Craven High School Sports Department. The chart said, do you think having study-hall would benefit the athletes performance in school? According to the results 78% said yes and 25% said no. The athletic department needs improvement, and I have the data to back it up. So are you willing to help. Hey, Im Raquon Carmon and I may have a solution to our problem here at West Craven, which is the need for a better Athletic Department.The entire Athletic Department needs new things like jerseys and equipment. Even the places where the sports are played could use improvement,such as the gym. If any improvements are going to be made, we need money. Coach “G”, the Athletic Director, stated that we needed more money in one of the interviews.
Don’t you want to see your athletes shine during sporting events? For your athletes to do that, they will need better equipment. The money for the equipment isn’t going to come knocking at the door, we’re going to have to work for it.There are many things we, as a school, could do to raise money. Fundraising is the most effective way to get money. Certain fundraising activities we can do are having car washes, selling foods at all sporting events, or just simply asking for money from the community. We students cannot do this without your help. We feel that if you are part of the staff here at West Craven High you should want all of your students to succeed any way they can. I know that it takes a lot of effort to do your jobs but in the end it's all worth it. We want your support to help us get better equipment, clothing, and other new things so we can look as good as we play.
There are many ways to support our cause. As staff members you can talk to certain companies to see if they will sponsor us. If we have more sponsors we will get more money to use on the things the Athletic Department needs. You can also allow us to have car washes. Since just allowing us to have a car wash though isn’t enough, coming out to help or get your car washed is a great way to show your support and will help us raise more money. We noticed that at some sporting events there aren’t any concessions sold. Selling food at games is an easy way to raise money because watching sports is better when you have something to snack on while you’re watching. If you can’t do any of those things, you can ask your fellow workers for money to help us achieve our goal of improving the Athletic Department. Have you ever wondered why West Craven's atheletes are known as the best but they just dont have that Bidazzle or Pizazz? Well I have now found the answer to your question. From my rersearch I have learned that West Craven High School as a whole does not get anough funding for its athetic department.We have learned this by surveying and interviewing the coaches, since they know more about the funding that goes on in that department.
West Craven is known for its great athelets but this magnificent school is also known for its; from the words of many athletes: "ugly, uncomfortable, unmatching, old-stankin' uniforms". Some say this is "embarrasing" others find it humorous, but no one knows how the athlete's feel about the whole situation; they are the ones who have to wear this stuff.basically this is a big problem that needs to be fixed.
I could sit here all day and talk about the sports dept.this and the athleic dept. that but nothing is going to change until we get the one thing that we need and it doesnt take a genius to figure that out.The one thing we need is MONEY!!! We know for a fact that the athletic dept. does not get enough money but there is also a list of things we could do to solve this problem. That includes fundraising ideas and many other activities.But some kids working on a project cannot change but so much.
We need money, not only for the poor uniforms but for the Athletic dept. as a whole. In one of our interviews that you will hear about later on in the presentation Coach.G (the athletic director) states: " if we, the coaches invest in the athletes; the athletes wil invest in theirselves".
